In response to the latest situation of COVID-19:
All Hong Kong residents coming from Mainland China, Macao, Taiwan and other overseas countries/regions by plane will be subject to a 14-day compulsory quarantine.
The Department of Health (DH) has strengthened health quarantine and COVID-19 testing arrangements for inbound travellers. Starting from 22 April, all asymptomatic inbound travellers are required to take shuttle bus from Hong Kong International Airport immediately to the temporary specimen collection centre at AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) to collect deep throat saliva samples in accordance with the instructions and submit the samples to the DH personnel at the venue for conducting COVID-19 test. They are also mandated to wait for test results at a designated location.
Please follow the quarantine procedures as instructed by the border personnel of the Department of Health. Any person who provides false information or does not comply with the quarantine requirements is committing an offence. From 29 July 2020 the Hong Kong SAR Government requires all people to wear face masks when entering or present in a public place (indoor and outdoor). Please refer to the Government’s announcement:
In line with the government requirement, passengers must wear face masks in all indoor and outdoor public areas at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).
Airport Authority Hong Kong requires that all passengers must continue to wear face masks after they enter the restricted area of HKIA for boarding. This compulsory requirement is also applicable at SkyPier and on Automated People Mover and Apron Passengers Vehicles.
Passengers are advised to bring their own face masks.
Arriving passengers who have stayed in specified places listed below on or before the 14 days of boarding a flight to Hong Kong, must provide to their airlines specified documents until further notice:
Effective from 25 July
Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines and South Africa
Effective from 29 July
The USA, Kazakhstan
Specified documents include:
(1) a letter or certificate in English or Chinese issued by a laboratory or healthcare institution bearing the name and identity card or passport number of the relevant traveller to show that:
(a) the relevant traveller underwent a nucleic acid test for COVID-19 the sample for which was taken from the relevant passenger within 72 hours before the scheduled time of departure of the specified aircraft;
(b) the test conducted on the sample is a nucleic acid test for COVID-19; and
(c) the result of the test is that the relevant traveller was tested negative for COVID-19;
(2) the original of the report for the test issued by the laboratory or healthcare institution bearing the name and identity card or passport number of the relevant traveller;
(3) a letter in English or Chinese issued by the relevant authority of the government of the place in which the laboratory or healthcare institution is located certifying that the laboratory or healthcare institution is recognised or approved by the government; and
(4) the relevant traveller has confirmation in English or Chinese of room reservation in a hotel in Hong Kong for not less than 14 days starting on the day of the arrival of the relevant traveller in Hong Kong.
If a traveller fails to comply with the requirement to provide the information, or knowingly or recklessly provides any information that is false or misleading in a material particular, he/she is liable on conviction to the maximum penalty of a fine HK$10,000 and imprisonment for six months.
The operator of the specified aircraft should submit to the Department of Health (DH) before the specified aircraft arrives at Hong Kong a document in a form specified by the DH confirming that each relevant traveller has, before being checked-in for the flight to Hong Kong on the aircraft, produced for boarding on the aircraft the above documents.
