Malaysia Airports - Wikipedia

The Malaysian government has implemented the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) from 10 June 2020 to 31 August 2020 to continue curbing the spread of COVID-19.  Here is what you need to know about the new normal in air travel during this period.

1. Have all flights resumed normal operations? 

There are no restrictions for all carriers to resume their operations. However please note that only interstate travel is allowed, and our borders are still closed until further notice. Therefore you are advised to check with the respective airline companies on your flight schedules.

2. Who will be allowed to fly out of Malaysia?

2.1 Following are the list of those who can fly out of Malaysia:

a) Visitors and foreign nationals
b) Malaysian citizens and Permanent Residents holding work permit from the third countries who wish to return to their place of work. You are required to  produce the necessary documents at the point of departure (Resident Pass/Long Term Pass/Work Permit).
c) Malaysian citizens who are students who wish to resume their studies, sit for examination or who have received offers to study abroad. You are required to produce the necessary documents at the point of departure (Student Pass/Visa/Long Term Pass/Letter of Offer/Letter of Instruction).

2.2 Malaysian citizens who need to travel abroad for emergency, work, attending seminar and other business purposes will have to submit their application to the Immigration Department of Malaysia.

3. Who will be allowed to fly into Malaysia?

3.1 Other than Malaysian citizens and Permanent Residents, following are the list of foreigners who are allowed to enter Malaysia:

a) Employment Pass Category I (EP I), with dependants and their domestic helpers
b) Residence Pass-Talent (RP-T), with dependants and their domestic helpers

3.2 Entry of the following list is subject to the entry approval from the Immigration Department of 
      Malaysia:

a) Employment Pass Category II and III (EP II & EP III) 
b) Professional Visit Pass (PVP) 
c) Long Term Social Visit Pass (LTSVP) for children above 18 years old / parents / parents in-law 
d) Foreign students 
e) Foreign patients (with 1 companion) seeking medical treatment – application must be made   
    through Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC)

3.3 Please note that all entries into Malaysia must comply to the following:

a) To be tested NEGATIVE for COVID-19 through the PCR COVID-19 swab test WITHIN THREE (3) days before entering Malaysia (except for Malaysian citizens)
b) Download and activate the contact tracing app, MySejahtera into their mobile/gadget 
c) Fill up the health declaration form in MySejahtera 
d) Undergo a swab test (Malaysian) and temperature screening (Malaysian and non-Malaysian) 
e) Undergo 14 days quarantine at designated quarantine centres by the government. The cost of which is to be borne by the passenger. 

3.4 Airline and cargo crews including private jets are required to go through health screening before immigration clearance.

4. Will international passengers be able to transit at our airport?

Yes. You are required to produce your boarding pass/valid ticket to your next foreign destination. However only transit within the same terminal is allowed for international transit passengers.

However, please check with your airlines on your baggage transfer and the allowable transit duration for your connecting flight.

5. Can Malaysians or foreign visitors (who are currently in Malaysia) from Peninsula Malaysia fly to Sabah or Sarawak, and vice versa?

Malaysian citizens are allowed to travel from Peninsula Malaysia to Sabah or Sarawak, and vice versa.

6. Are the shops, services and F&B outlets at the airport open during this period?

Yes, most of the retail and F&B outlets at the airport are now open, with the rest expected to resume operation soon. However, operation hours of the outlets may vary. You are also required to register your visit through the available contact tracing app at each individual outlet. 

You are able to dine-in at several of our F&B outlets while observing social distancing measures. You may also order take-away meals at outlets that do not offer dine-in options. 

We highly encourage all airport guests to go cashless at our retail and F&B outlets through the myriad e-payment services provided.

7. What are the safety measures taken at the airport? 

We will screen the body temperature of all airport guests at every point of entrance to the terminal building and ensure they wear face mask. Social distancing markers are also in place to help guide airport guests, and convenient placement of hand sanitisers throughout the airport journey. We have also installed anti-microbial sneeze guards at service counters. 

The airport terminals are also regularly sanitised and disinfected using various methods such as dry-mist fumigation with a water-based chemical that kills 99% of microorganisms, Blu-ray anion nano spray gun and micro-mist blower which forms a thin layer of coating that protects the surfaces from unwanted microorganism. 

These measures are augmented by the presence of on-ground safety compliance officers patrolling the terminals and safety messages on digital screens to remind airport guests to continue practising safe measures.  Our friendly roving Airport CARE Ambassadors are also 
available for passengers requiring assistance. 

8. Can I get to the airport via public transport?

Yes, all public transport has resumed normal operations. However please check the service frequency with the respective service providers.
