COVID-19

Health, safety and security is always our highest priority at Skyxe Saskatoon Airport.  We have implemented several health measures that will help to ensure that the airport remains a safe place to visit.

We are committed to our community now and always. We continue to provide essential services in keeping our airport and runways open to ensure that emergency medical services such as STARS and Air Ambulance can operate. We ensure that our partners have access to bring goods, services, and supplies in and out of the community. And we will continue to support the economic recovery of our community.

The Saskatoon Airport Authority continues to closely monitor the situation involving COVID-19. We remain in regular contact with our airlines, agencies and partners to ensure preparedness and are actively taking steps as directed by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and the Saskatchewan Health Authority to ensure the safety of our guests and the general public.

While the Public Health Agency of Canada continues to assess the public health risk associated with COVID-19 to Canadians, the World Health Organization has characterized it as a global pandemic.

We will continue to share information and keep the public informed via our website and social media channels. If passengers have any questions directly related to their flight or travel plans, we advise them to check the Government of Canada website for the most up-to-date Travel.

Mandatory Face Masks/Coverings for Travelling Passengers

Transport Canada requires all air passengers to have a non-medical mask or face covering to cover their mouth and nose during travel. These measures came into effect at noon EDT on April 20, 2020.

When travelling by air, travellers will be asked to cover their mouth and nose:

  • at Canadian airport screening checkpoints, where the screeners cannot always keep two metres of separation between themselves and the traveller;
  • when they cannot physically distance from others, or as directed by the airline employees; and
  • when directed to do so by a public health order or public health official.

The Public Health Agency of Canada is now recommending wearing a non-medical mask in the community even if you have no symptoms, as an additional measure to protect others around you.  Skyxe continues to evolve guidelines in order to maintain our commitment to keeping our community safe.  We recommend and strongly encourage all passengers, suppliers, visitors, and tenant employees wear a mask or face covering while in all public areas of the airport terminal building.  Masks are mandatory in washrooms or in any space in which a 2-meter distance from others cannot be maintained.

If you forget to bring a face covering, masks are available for purchase at Relay post-security as well as in a vending machine pre-security.

Social Distance & Traffic flow

In the effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19, we have installed several measure to help with social distancing and traffic flow.

  • Installed plexi-glass barriers at all airline check-in counters, boarding gates, and information desks
  • Installed new physical distancing floor decals to remind passengers to keep 2 metres away from others
  • Adjusted traffic flowing in and out of the Terminal to ensure one-way traffic areas
  • Installed hand sanitizer stations at each entrance of the building and added stations throughout the terminal

Cleaning

We have enhanced our supplementary cleaning measures that are already in place, including the utilization of higher-grade cleaning products and supplementary cleaning and sanitizing of our highest touch-points such as handrails, kiosks, and armrests. Our heightened cleaning plan for the terminal quadruples our standard cleaning protocols and continues to utilize high-grade cleaning products. We have disinfectant wipes located throughout the terminal for wiping baggage cart handles.

Ground Transportation

jetSet Shuttle

The health & safety of our guests and employees is our priority. To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the jetSet shuttle is temporarily unavailable. The jetSet parking lot is closed to incoming vehicles until further notice. Please use our walking trail or service road if necessary to access this parking lot.

Taxi

Skyxe’s licensed taxi provider, Riide, has an active protocol where each driver sprays two applications of Vangard spray sanitizer to all surfaces between each trip, and many of the cars have plexi-glass barriers between the driver and guest. Direct contact is limited as much as possible.

Uber

Uber has a dedicated global team of Uber operations, security and safety executives, guided by the advice of a consulting public health expert, working to respond as needed in each market where they operate around the world, including in Saskatoon. Uber remains in close contact with local public health organizations and will continue to follow their recommendations.

As of May 18, 2020, Uber will be messaging drivers and riders on the need to wear a facial covering or mask anytime they are inside a vehicle. They will maintain this policy through the end of June, and then reassess based on local conditions. Further, in order to promote compliance with the facial covering policy, they are rolling out in-app technology to detect driver facial coverings, as well as deploying driver and rider pre-trip checklists.

Uber is also continuing our efforts to send masks directly to earners of the platform as supplies become available. Furthermore, Uber has shifted the maximum number of UberX riders from 4 to 3, to avoid any riders sitting in the front seat.

Finally, Uber has also been working with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), and has compiled safety tips and recommendations specifically geared towards ridesharing and delivery. Uber has also included the information in COVID-19 safety educational videos that drivers and riders will be able to access online and via the app.

Preventative tips for your travel

All passengers are subject to a health check before they board an aircraft and anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 will not be allowed to travel. Health checks may be administered by an airline employee at the check-in counter or the boarding gates.

Passengers travelling by plane to, from or within Canada will have to undergo temperature checks in pre-board screening that will be administered by the Canadian Air Transportation Security Authority (CATSA), with implementation prior to September 2020.

Proper hygiene can help reduce the risk of infection or spreading infection to others:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after using the washroom and when preparing food:
    • use alcohol-based hand sanitizer (in containers 100ml.100g or less) if soap and water are not available
  • When coughing or sneezing:
    • cough into a tissue or the bend of your arm, not your hand
    • dispose of any tissues you have used as soon as possible in and wash your hands afterwards
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands
